Mahoney Succeeds in Vote to Override WRDA Veto

Mahoney Calls the Override "A Tremendous Victory for Florida"

(Washington, D.C.) - Congressman Tim Mahoney (FL-16) today helped
pass an override of President Bush's veto of the Water Resources
Development Act (WRDA) in the U.S. House.  The WRDA bill will
authorize $1.82 billion for Everglades Restoration and $1.5 million
for the Herbert Hoover Dike.

"This is a tremendous victory for Florida.  I urge my colleagues in
the Senate to take the last step necessary to override the President's
veto and make this critical and long overdue investment in our nation's
infrastructure.  Tonight on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis the
voice of the American people was heard.  For the first time in seven
years the Everglades, Herbert Hoover Dike, and water infrastructure
throughout the nation are being made a priority," said Congressman
Tim Mahoney.

The Senate must also vote to override the President's veto for WRDA
to become law.  Congress has not passed a WRDA bill since the year 2000.
