Kara Bridgman
Sweeney graduated from University of South Carolina with a B.A. in anthropology, and from University
College Cork in Ireland with a Masters degree in archaeology. She
currently is a Ph.D. candidate at University of Florida, and her research interests include lithic
analysis, hunter gatherer studies, and public outreach.
Kara joins a
successful heritage program at Randell Research Center, home to the Calusa
Heritage Trail. She is a regional coordinator of Southwest Regional Public
Archaeology Center of Florida Public Archeology Network based out of the Randell Research Center in Pine Island. The Randell Research Center is located at the Pineland Site Complex, which is an important regional heritage tourism destination as
well as a public education and research complex.
Kara Bridgman Sweeney
extensively travel throughout the Southwest Florida region and actively
participates in educational programs that allow students learn about Florida and country’s history, archeological discoveries and
heritage.
“It is important to teach the public because we have a rich history in the area
and some of the sites are threatened,” she explained. “Many people are
interested in the past and we want to encourage and foster that interest.”
